Free Press Journal encourages newspaper reading through scrapbook competition

The kids are required to create a scrapbook with 40 cuttings from the 'Kids Corner' section of the newspaper. One can make stories, events, announcements, spoofs, cartoons, monologues and dialogues with the scraps.

In a bid to promote newspaper reading among children, the Free Press Journal has started a unique activity which is a Scrap Book Competition for school students.

To participate in the competition, the kids have to collect 40 cuttings of the 'Kids Corner' section published in the Free Press Journal newspaper, which is an informative section for kids carried six days a week.

Children have to collect 40 cuttings of 'Kids Corner', buy any kind of scrap book and creatively design it. One can make stories, events, announcements, spoofs, cartoons, monologues and dialogues, anything with the help of the 40 scraps, and submit the scrapbook at The Free Press Journal office. The entries will be judged on imagination, creativity and command over English.

The Free Press Journal has tied up with nearly 150 schools to receive the entries.

Abhishek Karnani, director, Free Press Journal, says, "The Scrapbook competition is a promotional event to encourage children to read and imbibe information that makes them well rounded individuals. From the educational angle, it aims to inculcate the prudent habit of newspaper reading and to enhance students' knowledge."

The winner of the competition will win a personal computer sponsored by Zenith Computers and the runner up will win an Educational Tablet sponsored by Mango Learning. Other consolation prizes are sponsored by Knorr Soups-Unilever Group, Big Flix - Reliance Group, Monginis, Essel World and Water Kingdom, and Kores.

The three-month activity started during the last week of August and will conclude in October.
