ZEE Sports acquires telecast rights of Davis Cup, Federation Cup

The channel has signed a three-year contract with International Tennis Federation (ITF) for the exclusive rights of these tournaments

ZEE Sports has acquired the telecast rights for two tennis tournaments – Davis Cup and Federation Cup. The recently launched sports channel from the ZEE bouquet has signed a three-year exclusive deal with International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The channel along with ITF will look forward to expand coverage of international tennis events for the Indian viewers. The rights also include the matches played by the Indian team.

As part of the deal, ZEE Sports will telecast the semi-final matches of World Group 2005 starting September 23-25. The first semi-final match will be played between Dominik Hrbaty of Slovak Republic and Guillermo Coria of Argentina, and the second semi-finalists are Mario Ancic of Croatia and Martin Safin of Russia.

An enthused Gary Lovejoy, chief operating officer, ZEE Sports says, “Fans in India can expect coverage of the Davis Cup and the Federation Cup at a level, which were previously unavailable in India. We plan to package and produce the programmes in our own style so that they can relate to it, with a comprehensive match coverage including daily news, highlights and analysis.”

In addition, the channel’s daily news programme, SportsCafe will present the daily highlights and analysis of the best moments of the matches.
