Raj TV gets innovative; plans ground events

With ‘10 Towns’ in Tamil Nadu and another show in Malaysia, Raj TV gets up, close and personal with its viewers

Raj TV is trying to create touch points within the smaller towns in a big way. The channel will host an event called ‘10 Towns’ to reach out to the audiences of smaller towns in Tamil Nadu. The channel is also planning an event in Malaysia. Both events will be held in May.

‘10 Towns’ will have South Indian singers entertaining crowds in each town. Shankar B, vice-president, sales and marketing, says, “The show, ‘10 Towns’, will go to the smaller towns, which have never seen an event of this large a scale.” The towns include Madurai, Pondicherry, Trichi, Salem and Kumbakonam.

Shankar insists, “The entry is free, but it will score a point for us by creating a touch point.” He explains, “We will promote our shows and introduce new contests and prizes. This will mean a lot of promotion for us.” The tour will end in two and a half months.

Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble will sponsor the shows. But how will they gain from them? Shankar answers, “The sponsors will get a lot of promotion as they will have stalls at the shows and they will get free on-air TV promotions, in addition to hoardings and the singers promoting them on-stage.”

“This is just the beginning,” says Shankar. And he’s right, for Raj TV is planning to go to Malaysia with a star night. The show will be sponsored by Mysore Sandal Soap and Himani Navratna Talc.

Why Malaysia? Shankar says, “This is a first of its kind show by a South Indian channel. We are available on the Malaysia ITV platform. Moreover, we have wanted to do a show there for a long time. This was the right time for us, so we took it up.”

Raj TV will also telecast the shows on its channel later. The channel has charted out the promotional plans, though the details are yet to be finalised. Shankar says, “We will be promoting the shows aggressively.”

He adds, “Besides the advertisements in ‘Dinamalar’, we will promote both shows on our channel. There will be hoardings around the towns so that people will know about them.”
