Ambikanand Sahay, head, news operations, S1, quits

The channel’s deputy news editor, Mukesh Kumar, has also put in his papers

S1, the Hindi news channel that covers Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), suffered a double blow on June 3, 2006, when the CEO of the media house, Ambikanand Sahay, and its deputy editor, news, Mukesh Kumar, put in their papers.

Industry sources had already confirmed this development to agencyfaqs!, but executives at S1 refused to comment about it. All they revealed was that the two senior executives had quit the company for personal reasons. The industry source told agencyfaqs! that Sahay was looking forward to an assignment outside Delhi.

Both Sahay and Kumar were not available for comments.

Sahay moved to S1 from Sahara Samay in November 2006; he was senior vice-president at Sahara Samay. Before that, he had been a political analyst with ‘The Times of India’ (‘TOI’) since 2003. He started his career with ‘The Statesman’ in 1972, moved to ‘TOI’, Lucknow, as resident editor in 1991, and was with the daily for the next seven years.

Meanwhile, S1 is ready to shed it local tag. It is planning to expand to other metros such as Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. For the record, S1, which belongs to the Senior Group of Companies, was launched in August 2005. The group also has a fortnightly magazine in Hindi, called ‘Senior India’.
