The English daily plans to launch an edition from the city

English daily Hindustan Times (HT) is consolidating its plans for the Madhya Pradesh market. As a part of this, the daily has introduced a printing facility in Indore, which will later culminate into an edition.

Following this, the paper, which currently reaches out to the readers of Indore with a replica of the Bhopal edition, will have content tailored to the needs of the local population. The paper has also introduced a four-six page news supplement called Indore Live in the area.

Citing the reason behind introducing different content for Indore, which is just 180 kms from Bhopal, Vivek Gaur, business head, North and East, HT Media, says, "The reading requirements of the people in Indore and Bhopal are completely different. On one hand, where the Bhopal edition has lots of content picked from Delhi, Indore readers have a tilt towards the business news. Therefore, the content of the Indore facility will pick more stories from Mumbai."

This implies that the Indore facility, apart from carrying city specific content, will also focus on news from the financial capital of the country. Incidentally, Indore is considered to be the commercial capital of MP.

With this move, HT becomes the second English newspaper to be printed at Indore, apart from Free Press Journal.

The group has also chalked out its plans for the belt. After Indore, it will head towards Raipur, Chattisgarh.

As per IRS Q1, 2010, Hindustan Times has a total readership of 24,000 in Indore. Following this development, the newspaper is looking at increasing the print run of the daily in the city. "MP is a very big market for Hindi players but English dailies do not have a strong hold there. So, even if it has a decent number there, it should serve our purpose," asserts Gaur.

Apart from HT, the other two dailies which have their presences in Indore are The Times of India (TOI) and The Hindu, which, as per the latest round of IRS, have total readerships of 32,000 and 2,000 respectively. Two English business newspapers, The Economic Times and Business Standard, are also available in the market.
