Cannes 2011: India opens with seven nominations in Promo & Activation

BBDO India has won three nominations, while Mudra and CreativeLand Asia have won two each.

The first list of nominations for the Cannes Lions Award at the 58th International Festival of Creativity is out. India has opened its innings with seven nominations in the Promo & Activation category.

BBDO India has won three nominations -- one each for Shave Sutra (P&G Mach3 Razor), Cops on Oats (Pepsi Foods), and Call from the Future (Aviva Life Insurance).

is an extension of the Shave India movement, where 2,000 men shaved in public, and the activity found a place in the Limca Book of records.

For Quaker Oats, the agency tied up with the Chennai police for a 30-day programme to make the cops, including the top brass, fitter and healthier.

Mudra's two nominations were for Silent National Anthem (BIG Cinema), while both nominations for CreativeLand Asia were for Plant-T (Parle Agro).

On the occasion of India's 61st Republic Day, the Mudra Group had created a new video, which was a silent rendition of India's National Anthem, interpreted through sign language. The video was played in all BIG Cinema theatres, before a film commenced.

CreativeLand Asia created a twitter application for a social media campaign which grew to reinforce the company's inventory management and distribution set-up.

This year, there were 89 nominations from India -- 14 less than last year. Interestingly, India has this history of wining one promo lion every year since the inception of this category in 2006.
