Emmanuel Upputuru, creative chairman and co-founder ITSA, a Gurgaon-based creative agency, has decided to move on from his current role. In July 2012, Upputuru, along with Anirban Mozumdar and Daniel Upputuru, started ITSA Brand Innovations. The agency was launched in collaboration with Concept Communications.
Here is the 'resignation letter' which he published on the agency's website.
'Dear ITSA folks,
One of my favourite ads growing up, written by Barbara Nookes, said,
"You can't, because you are the boss."
Well, I just did.
You might ask why, after just completing five years. Especially 1) when you take into account that, in my entire career, I have never finished a fifth year in any agency 2) when you take into account that we can be proud of what we have achieved here, in this corner of Gurgaon.
Over the last few years we have competed against the boys and girls from Ogilvy, JWT, Lowe and Mudra, and won. We have entered award shows and come back with gongs. All this, without saving one-legged dogs, illiterate children, and sleep-deprived/breathless patients.
We have helped create campaigns that were effective. We have satisfied our clients and helped them become successful.
But I am not satisfied. Because I have always believed satisfaction is death for a creative person. But the more important reason is, the industry is not the same one I joined some two decades ago. And I am not going to sit here and be a commentator.
I have been preparing to change my game. So here I am. As they say, I am moving on.
Yes, I have resigned.
I have informed all our clients about my decision. Since I didn't want to leave them in the lurch, I have already recommended a leaner, meaner, hungrier agency.
They have accepted my decision with grace.
I hate to leave you like this. I will meet each of you personally to discuss the way forward. But I am around, the industry is small, and I am not leaving the planet, God-willing, yet.
I would like to thank each one of you and look forward to working with you closely to close this chapter and begin a new one.
Before starting ITSA, Upputuru worked with Publicis India as the national creative director. He spent more than four years at Publicis and was responsible for steering the creative function of the agency.
He has worked at agencies such as Ogilvy & Mather, Contract, Leo Burnett and McCann Erickson.Upputuru intends to announce his future plans soon.
