Porsche creates history by breaking the lap record at Buddh International Circuit

The new 911 GT3, driven by Formula 1 driver, Narain Karthikeyan was 2.2 seconds quicker than the last record.

Motorsport is one of the few sports in the world which you enjoy even if you are unaware of the players, the rules or the technicalities of the sport. The adrenaline rushes in your veins from the time the throttle is pressed to when the finishing flag is waived and it keeps you glued to the scene. The roaring engine, screeching tyres, and the competitive spirit makes you feel as if you are in the driver's gear and behind the wheels. With every sharp turn, your posture takes a drift. On top of that, aren't record-runs just a marvel to witness? We all the know the answer to it and Porsche just broke one!

Porsche, renowned for its innovative motorsports technology, broke the lap record on the Buddh International Circuit, India with the new Porsche 911 GT3. The beauty in red was driven by India's first Formula-1 driver, Narain Karthikeyan who touched the finishing line at an accelerated 2 minutes and 7.6 seconds which was 2.2 seconds quicker than the previously held record. The official certification of the record was done by the esteem Federation of Motor Sports Club of India, with the support of Michelin and ExxonMobil.

The Porsche 911 GT3

Interestingly, the car is virtually unchanged from the thoroughbred 911GT3 Cup model. Prime features of the sports car which have helped the brand create this record include carbon rear wing and lightweight front end, for greater airflow along with a 918 Spyder steering wheel and other premium details, making the ride comfortable, classy, and speedy. What is noteworthy is the premium driving experience the brand is committed to give, even to those who use it for the everyday commute.

Some of the notable features of the record-breaking car include four-litre flat, six-cylinder engine which is capable of delivering 500 hp. Developed and manufactured on the lines of a race car, the dual-seater accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. It comes with a seven-speed double-clutch suspension transmission (PDK) and is also available with a six-gear transmission. The top speed of the car is 318 km/h and with a full tank, the car weights at 1,430 kg.

This is what Narain Karthikeyan had to say about this experience, “I have been lucky enough to have driven some of the world’s most powerful cars on tracks around the world, and I can truly say that driving the Porsche 911 GT3 today was one of the most exhilarating drives I have had the pleasure of experiencing. To set a record on home soil here at the Buddh International Circuit is really very special to me, and I am honoured to have made history here with Porsche today.”

Most of the race cars we have dreamed of getting are sadly not authorized to run on the roads. Porsche with 911 GT3 has resolved this issue as it is road approved and street legal. And now that it has proven its worthiness on the track we doubt it is going to cause any glitches on the street. By making it a race track beast and an everyday partner, the brand has further strengthened its proposition both on track and road. Masterfully directed and shot, the film teaches us that no record is impossible to be broken and for now, Porsche 911 GT3 is the record-breaker!
