BJP’s ‘Don’t Blink’ video suspiciously similar to Apple’s 2016 iPhone launch ad

The video used the same typography, visuals and even had an identical ‘mic drop’ moment.

On the morning of April Fools Day, when Congress was busy taking digs at BJP’s election manifesto, BJP had something of their own, up their sleeve. They released a video that captures what ‘New India’ looks like under Narendra Modi’s tenure. The video also urged users not to ‘blink’ and mentions that they were ‘just getting started.’

Two phrases that were used by Apple in a 2016 launch announcement video for its iPhone 7 plus. BJP’s video used the same style of fast typography on a screen, copied the same background score and even uses the same visual of a mic drop at the end of the video.

The differentiator between these two videos is that in all the places where Apple used product shots, the BJP video used photographs and video footage of laughing citizens and of the different types of development that the government has facilitated. According to the video, Modi’s new India looks like a rapidly developing economy with many citizen centred-schemes. The video included references to the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, the Statue of Unity, surgical strikes, and Train 18 which was made in India. The video also took a moment to highlight the allies that he made on his various trips around the world and has shots of business leaders of the world (such as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft’s Bill Gates) taking Narendra Modi’s name. The video is 107 seconds long and urges citizens to go out and vote in the upcoming elections.
