Vidooly Report: Indian News Channels Coverage of 2019 Election on YouTube

Vidooly, as its website describes it, excels in measuring online video behaviour of audiences across major platforms. Its latest report on the 'Indian news channels coverage of the 2019 election results on YouTube' highlights the concurrent live users of the top two YouTube channels under the English and Hindi language categories, tracked on an hourly basis. It also presents the figures of the subscribers and viewership gained on the channel level tracked from 11.00 am-8.00 pm IST on May 23, the day when the much-awaited Lok Sabha elections 2019 results were announced.

The report is an analysis of the fluctuating viewership, through the counting of votes to the final announcement of results, on YouTube channels of the two dominant English (CNN-News18 and Republic TV) and Hindi (ABP News and Aaj Tak) news channels. According to the report, the viewers shared an on-again-off-again relationship with the channels. ABP News picked up 702.42k viewers at 9.00 am that went up to 806.74k at 10.00 am - the highest viewership recorded by any news YouTube channel on the day. Aaj Tak recorded its most number of live users during the day at 9.00 am, with 431.50k users at the time.

In fact, ABP News also gained 197.5k subscribers during the day, whereas the count ended at 140.65k for Aaj Tak. The graph presented in the report also states the subscribers gained by YouTube channel of India TV, Zee News, and News18 India.

Comparatively, there were lesser viewers of English telecasts of the results on YouTube. Republic TV saw the most number of live users for any English news YouTube channel broadcasting the results at 11.00 am with 66.85k users. CNN-News18 gained a viewership of 5.83M during the day.

The number of subscribers for NDTV jumped up by 18.55k. However, Republic TV earned only 13.45k subscribers between 11.00 am and 8.00 pm.
