Radio One hires station heads from O&M

Radio One has appointed two station heads for its Delhi and Bangalore stations. Both are advertising professionals from O&M

Radio One is on its way to consolidating its teams at Delhi and Bangalore by appointing station heads at both places. The two key appointments include Murli Muktapuram and Shyju Varkey in Delhi and Bangalore, respectively.

Murli Muktapuram has joined Radio One from O&M, Delhi, where he was a client servicing director. He has worked on brands such as ‘Hindustan Times’ and the Shipra Group during the seven and a half years that he spent at O&M. In his 12-year career, Muktapuram has also worked with agencies such as FCB-Ulka, Delhi, and Mudra, Ahmedabad.

The station head for Radio One in Bangalore, Shyju Varkey, has moved from O&M, Bangalore, where he was the business head on HLL. He has ten years’ experience in advertising.

Talking about his shift from advertising to radio, Muktapuram says that it was the excitement of doing something different that brought him here. Varkey says it was the ‘sound’ of doing something else more interesting that lured him in.

Varkey has been involved in the back-end operations for Radio One in Bangalore, starting with setting up the office and recruiting the team, for over a month now. He says, “After setting the base, we need to take off and undertake actual action. Our efforts will be directed towards establishing ourselves in the competitive market.” Now that the team is in place, he says, they will chart out a strategic route for the station.

Muktapuram, meanwhile, is catching up with the trade and getting close to his new field of operations. His task will be to drive the success of the radio station and handle the marketing and programming aspects. “Though I won’t be deeply involved in the programming part of it, I will have a say in it,” he says.
