UTV Motion Pictures bags 4 STAR Screen awards

UTV films – Swades, Lakshya and Morning Raga – won many hearts

UTV films are having a gala time. At the STAR Screen Awards held last week, UTV films – Swades, Lakshya and Morning Raga – won many hearts.

While ‘Swades’ won the award for ‘Critics Choice of Best Film’ with newcomer Gayatri Joshi bagging the ‘The most promising newcomer’ award, UTV co-production ‘Lakshya’ won best choreography for the song ‘Main Aisa Kyon Hoon’. Shabana Azmi, meanwhile, won the ‘Best Performance In An Indian Film In English‘ for her role in Morning Raga.

Says Ronnie Screwvala, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures, “The awards are just another manifestation of the quality cinema produced and distributed by UTV. We believe in associating ourselves with movies across various genres that have the capacity to both excite and inspire the audience. From masala movies to movies about social consciousness, UTV has always been at the forefront of nurturing innovative ideas and promising talent.”

Adds Aditya Shastri, COO, UTV Motion Pictures, “UTV, as a company, has been synonymous with bringing in corporatisation into the industry and raising the bar on the quality of films being made available to the masses. Add to this UTV’s unique brand of marketing and positioning and our movies are a clear winner.”

The acclaim won by past projects such as Fiza, Sarfarosh, Hera Pheri, Chalte Chalte and now Lakshya, Swades and Morning Raga serve as hard evidence of the new standards the company has set in the industry over the last few years.

“Reaching out to the right audience and ensuring their entertainment and excitement is the demand-supply challenge that we constantly work on,” states Sanjeev Mehta, vice president, domestic distribution, UTV Motion Pictures.

Buoyed by the acclaim and the awards, the company now looks all set to consolidate its position in the top bracket of Hindi cinema, producing movies that excite and inspire and consolidating its distribution network that spans the length of breadth of the country and important geographies such as the US, the UK, Dubai, South Africa, Fiji and Japan.
