PlayTV will provide gaming news, contests, bidding and shopping

The channel is ready to be launched by March 2005

The ZEE-Essel group is all set to launch India's first interactive and gaming channel, PlayTV by March 2005 Apart from the regular entertainment programming such as movies, music and reality shows, the channel will provide gaming news, contests, bidding and shopping. This will be on real time basis through SMS, e-mails and chats.

In India, gaming, as an industry, is still in its growth stage. Globally, gaming as an industry stands at $30 billion, and despite its relative infancy, the market is already generating significant revenues and profits.

Announcing the launch of PlayTV, Amit Goenka, director - Essel Group, said, "In Asia, PlayTV is a new concept. Globally, gaming with a dash of entertainment and lifestyle is a huge market. It is one of the fastest growing TV segment with active viewer involvement and retention. Viewers across the world watch television not only for entertainment but also to draw some tangible benefits from the programme. PlayTV is not restricted to age, gender, skill and competency, as it is the channel for most of the age groups.”

On the opportunity PlayTV will provide to the corporate sector, Goenka said, "PlayTV is a perfect fit for advertisers and media planners. It will give opportunity for marketers for interactive advertising and create innovative platform for their target audiences."

PlayTV will be supported by state-of-the-art technology from Cellcast, an UK-based company. Cellcast will help PlayTV to set up TV SMS technology, and also pitch in for training and developing personnel in India. Cellcast is a rapidly growing company, which manages complex communications technologies to deliver and bill for digital entertainment, information and services to consumers across the globe.
