India nets 4 Silver, 11 Bronze at AP AdFest 2005

Lowe, OgilvyOne, McCann-Erickson India and Mudra DDB distinguish themselves

First, the big picture: 4 Silver, 11 Bronze and 14 Finalist nominations. This is India's metal tally at the recently concluded AP AdFest 2005 (Asia-Pacific Advertising Festival), held at Pattaya, Thailand. Quite a handful of Indian agencies – Lowe, OgilvyOne, McCann-Erickson India, and Mudra DDB distinguished themselves. Last year, India could only pick up a total of five awards – one Silver and four Bronze – across categories.

Here's the snapshot of 2005.

Lowe charms the judges

Balki or R Balakrishnan, executive creative director, Lowe, must have been a happy man last night. The agency did wonders at the awards. The Chennai branch, in particular, stood out.

In TVC, S-Mart (Lowe Mumbai) won a Silver, Saint Gobain (Lowe Chennai) took Bronze, while Tafe Tractor (Lowe Chennai) won a Finalist nomination.

In Outdoor, Rexona Deodrants (Lowe Mumbai) won a Bronze.

Score: One Silver, two Bronze, one Finalist nomination.

Bad luck, O&M Mumbai

If O&M Mumbai, arguably the hottest creative outfit in the country, didn't manage to win any awards, it certainly wasn't for want of trying. Indeed, the branch appeared as finalists under many of the categories, only to be beaten by perhaps more deserving contenders.

In TVC, Chocotella (O&M Mumbai) won a Finalist nomination.

In Print, Fevicol (O&M Mumbai) won three Finalist nominations.

In Outdoor, while Fevicol and Extra White Power Bar (O&M Mumbai) won two Finalist nominations, IBM Thinkpad (O&M Bangalore) won a Bronze.

In Direct Marketing, IBM Dropbox mailer (O&M Bangalore) bagged another Bronze.

In Interactive, Cancer Patients Aid Association (OgilvyOne Worldwide, Mumbai) won two Silver and a Bronze. Plus, BILT Matrix Notepad (OgilvyOne Worldwide, Delhi) has won a Finalist nomination.

Score: Two Silver, three Bronze, seven Finalist nominations.

McCann smiles all the way

It's absolutely wow what a misplaced underwear tag can do at an awards show. Hanes Innerwear and Prasoon Joshi's team (McCann Erickson Mumbai) won one Bronze and a Finalist nomination for the creatives.

In TVC, Hanes Innerwear (McCann Mumbai) won a Bronze.

In Outdoor, Big Babol (McCann Mumbai) won a Silver, while Hanes Innerwear (McCann Mumbai) won a Finalist nomination.

Score: One Silver, one Bronze

Mudra DDB springs a surprise

Doesn't Gujarat Police come across as the unlikeliest of advertisers to win a metal at an international advertising show? Whether it does, or doesn't is a matter of conjecture. What's relevant Mudra DDB has just made the Gujarati cop proud.

In Outdoor, the Fa Deodrants brand from Henkel (Mudra DDB Mumbai) won a bronze.

In Direct Marketing, Gujarat Police (Mudra DDB Ahmedabad) won one more bronze.

Score: Two Bronze

Agencies that also tried
