Hungama Television announces the Hungamathon

The channel is planning two mini marathons for kids in association with Surf Excel

Hungama Television, in association with Surf Excel, is launching a mini marathon for kids, called the ‘Hungamathon’.

Speaking to agencyfaqs!, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, senior vice-president, marketing and communications, says, “The Hungama channel stands for fun and frolic and we have always consciously organised opportunities to interact with our viewers. The ‘Surf Excel Hungamathon’ will be a great platform for us to interact with kids, who form the core audience for our channel.”

The marathon will be held first in Mumbai on October 23 at the Bandra Reclamation and then in Delhi on October 30 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Participants in the marathon have been divided into two broad categories. The first category is based on age and sub-divided into two: ‘Masters’ for 8-12 year olds and ‘Blasters’ for 13-15 year olds. The second category is sub-divided into ‘Speeders’ for serious runners, ‘Funners’ for those who wants to run just for fun and ‘Fancy Runners’ for those who love to dress crazily. For the 8-12 years’ group, the marathon distance is 2.5 kilometres, while for the13-15 years’ group, the distance is 4 kilometres.

Along with the marathon, schools will also compete for an inter-school trophy based on the points they gather in the marathon. The channel has roped in sports personalities and movie stars, who are also slated to participate in the marathon.

The co-sponsors for the event, apart from Surf Excel, are Kotak Life Insurance, Oxyrich, Peppy, Dukes Biscuits and Chocolates, Priya, Safal, Indiatimes.com and Planet M. The channel has tied up with Total Sports Asia, the Delhi State Athletic Association and the Maharashtra Athletic Association.

Incidentally, Hungama Television is also launching its new logo on October 30. Talking about the new look for the channel, Kapoor says, “As far as the kids’ category is concerned, children get bored very fast. I would not call it a revamp, it is more of refreshing the look and feel of the channel. The packaging of the channel is going to change. The new logo will be unveiled on October 30. In terms of programming, we are shifting our focus from live action to animation.”

He adds, “The new USP of the channel will be ‘Enter the world of Hungama and your world will turn upside down’.”
