Look ahead: Effies 2005 just around the corner

The Effies have added three new categories this year

Effies 2005, an initiative from the Advertising Club of Bombay, will be held on October 24, but this year, the event has three more categories – Internet, mobile and integrated marketing communications, in addition to the popular People’s Choice for the Best Case Study Presentation and the ‘Yahoo! Big Idea Chair’ award.

As Bipin R Pandit, GM, Effies, says, “This year’s event has received the highest number of entries – a record 79 in all.”

The venue has been shifted from Taj Land’s End to Hilton Towers in Mumbai.

Talking about the Yahoo! Big Idea Chair award, Pandit, says, “In a world where ‘sameness’ threatens at every turn, unique and outstanding work in the field of creative marketing and advertising is a thing of true value. And Yahoo! has decided to give this award to a team which has revitalised a brand with effective brand positioning along with intelligent use of media and creatives.”

This is the fourth year of Yahoo!’s association with the Effies. Apart from Yahoo!, the other sponsor of the event is the Internet and Mobile Association of India, which will sponsor the three new awards categories (Internet, mobile and integrated marketing communications).

In total, 37 agencies were shortlisted after round one; the agencies that have been shortlisted in round two will be awarded at the ceremony.

Again this year, price seemed to be no deterrent to the participants – each entry amounts to an outlay of Rs 17,500 for an agency. The reason for the steep entry fee is that the Effies have to pay royalty to the New York American Marketing Association, the promoter of these awards.
