This is Santhanam’s second stint with ZEE News. He is replacing Alka Saxena

Raju Santhanam has joined ZEE News as its editor. He was previously producing documentaries for various news channels, including ZEE News. He replaces Alka Saxena, and will be reporting directly to Laxmi Goel, director, newsgroup, ZEE News.

Confirming this development to agencyfaqs!, Santhanam says, “The news channel scene today is quite competitive. It is a big challenge to differentiate in such a crowded scene. But ZEE News is one of the pioneers in this field, and I am glad to be a part of this channel again. It feels like being back in action.”

Santhanam started his career in journalism in 1974 with The Indian Express. Four years later, he moved on to join The Statesman, Madhya Pradesh, as special correspondent. In 1984, he did a one year stint at India Today, after which he joined The Statesman, once again. He left as the executive editor in 1993, from where he joined ZEE News.

He left ZEE News in 2000, as head, news and has been producing documentaries for various news channels since then. He was also a part of a special programme on Doordarshan, called ‘Third Eye Television’ which showed exclusive coverage on the Iraq war.
