Devpriya Mohanty of Maxus moves to MindShare, Vietnam

He will hold the post of planning director there

Devapriya Mohanty, the business director of Maxus Delhi, is all set to relocate to Vietnam with his new appointment at MindShare as planning director. He will join from December 1, 2005, and will be based in Ho Chi Minh City. He has been deputed to Vietnam for three years currently.

Confirming his move, Mohanty says, “South East Asia is seeing an unprecedented boom. Contrary to all beliefs, Vietnam is the second fastest growing economy with many Indians as heads of MNCs there. There is a need for agencies with Indians at the helm that will act as a counterpart for these companies.”

He adds, “I am looking at getting a regional exposure from this stint. It is a natural progression from India, where you want to understand the media market once you have gained some experience in India.”

Commenting on Mohanty’s exit, Debraj Tripathy, general manager, Maxus Delhi, says, “Mohanty has been an asset to the agency. He has contributed immensely to the agency as he was handling some of our major clients.”

Mohanty, a graduate of the Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad, (MICA) began his career with Rediffusion DY&R as a planner. Since then, he has worked with HTA and Universal McCann. He also had a brief stint at Carat before joining Maxus.

At Maxus, where he has been for the last two years, Mohanty handled clients such as Dabur, Hutch (North), Ranbaxy, Xerox, Shell (regional) and PSI.

Mohanty’s move is the latest in the many transfers of GroupM India staff to key assignments in the region. In the past few years, several staff, including Charu Mahajan (Thailand), Chanchal Chakraborthy (Malaysia) and Arjun Ghosh (China), have gone on to make a mark in the regional network.
