Siddharth Roy, associate director, digital media, MTV India, quits

Roy hints that in January, he will join a company that is a known name in the digital media entertainment space

Siddharth Roy, associate director, digital media, MTV India, has put in his papers. Confirming this development to agencyfaqs!, Roy said that he will join a digital media entertainment company in January, but declined to say which one.

He says, “It has been a good stint for me at MTV India. However, I was offered a larger role in the company that I will join early next year. This company is quite well known in its field, and deals in a host of areas, including telecom and digital entertainment.”

Roy adds, “With the boom in the telecom and broadband sectors, entertainment in the digital media space is the next big thing waiting to happen. In my new role, I hope to harness this potential in the future.”

Talking about the memorable projects that he did for MTV India, Roy says, “One project that I hold close to my heart is ‘Mobisodes’, which we launched simultaneously with MTV’s second soap, ‘Pyaar Vyaar And All That’. ‘Mobisodes’, or mobile episodes, were 20-45 second recaps of the episodes of the serial, which the viewer could download exclusively on his mobile phone. We ran in-channel promotions for the ‘Mobisodes’. I was heading the digital media team for ‘Mobisodes’.”

“A second experience I recall is the MTV Lycra Style Awards and the Immies this year. We provided snippets of the awards ceremony as well as backstage trivia on the website (www.mtvindia.com) while the event was taking place. A lot of consumer blogging took place on the site as a result,” he recollects.

Roy started his career in consulting, but switched to Hungama.com in 1999, where he was first the regional head, Delhi. Later, he shifted to Mumbai, where he was in charge of mobile entertainment. In 2003, Roy joined STAR India, where he was responsible for the ‘7827’digital mobile tie-ups. Around a year later, he joined MTV India.
