SET Max appoints Sanjay Ramakrishnan V-P, marketing and communication

Ramakrishnan moves from WorldSpace Satellite Radio, where he served for around two years

Sanjay Ramakrishnan, head of marketing, WorldSpace Satellite Radio, has moved to SET Max as vice-president, marketing and communication. Ramakrishnan will be based in Mumbai and report to Albert Almeida, vice-president and business head, SET Max.

Talking about the development, Almeida says, “From print to Internet marketing, Ramakrishnan has a wide array of experience. His expertise covers consumer marketing, sales and distribution, business development and public relations. Since SET Max has got loads of action both in movies and cricket, I believe Ramakrishnan is best equipped to do justice to the Max brand in 2006.”

Ramakrishnan, an MBA from the Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Bangalore, started his career in media in 1997 with ‘The Times of India’ Group. He joined the sales and marketing team of Satyam Infoway in 2000. After serving the organisation for a year and a half, he moved to Lycos Asia. His next move was to Spice Telecom, where he was the head of marketing for Karnataka. He joined WorldSpace Satellite Radio in 2003.

Commenting on his move to television from radio, Ramakrishnan says, “WorldSpace was more of a re-launch as opposed to SET Max, which is an established brand. So, the role offered to me here is much more challenging. There is a lot of clutter in the television segment today and I believe that over time, marketing will become one of the differentiators. It is the innovations in marketing that will help channels make a mark for themselves.”
