Abby Awards 2006: The countdown begins

The 39th Abby Awards for creative excellence aims to be bigger and brighter

The Bombay Ad Club’s Abby Awards will complete its 39th year in 2006. And this year, the club is trying to make the event bigger and better.

The Abby Awards will have new categories in direct mail as well as sub-categories in radio and outdoor this year. The new sub-categories under radio and outdoor are FMCG, Consumer Durables, Consumer Services and Public Service. These categories have been selected on the basis of feedback received by the Bombay Ad Club committee.

This year, for the first time, the Abby Awards will also introduce Craft Awards for both film and print. This category is open to all film production houses, commercial photographers and illustrators, who can enter work produced during the year under various sub-categories such as direction, original music score, editing, animation, performance by an actor in film craft and photography and illustration in print craft.

Besides, the Bombay Ad Club also aims to bring in some changes in the judging procedure. This year, the panel of judges will include only creative professionals. They will also be instrumental in judging the final round.

Further, a maximum of two judges from one agency will be allowed to be a part of the award jury. A few younger, contemporary creative professionals will also mark their debut in the Abby Awards Jury.

In addition to this, the Bombay Ad Club will invite some creative professionals to be jury chairmen; these professionals will be responsible for judging each medium, such as press, television, etc. The Bombay Ad Club will also have an external audit firm to certify the entire judging process.
