'Dainik Bhaskar' eyes Punjab, appoints Anil Singh GM, operations

Singh will also oversee circulation in Himachal Pradesh, J&K and Haryana

The Hindi daily, ‘Dainik Bhaskar’, is planning to expand its base in Punjab by launching a separate edition for the state.

The group has appointed Anil Singh general manager of its operations in Punjab to spearhead its expansion plans. No date has been finalised yet for the launch.

According to Sanjeev Kotnala, general manager, strategy and brand communication, Dainik Bhaskar Group, “The launch is bound to happen sooner or later. The Punjab-Haryana-Chandigarh belt is important for any Hindi daily. We are already number one in Haryana, and now we will try to make our presence felt in Punjab also.”

Singh was earlier senior manager, product marketing, with ‘Dainik Jagran’. He says, “It was time for me to move on and face new challenges.” He adds, “This will be my second stint with the Dainik Bhaskar Group. I worked with it before I joined the Dainik Jagran Group three years ago.”

Singh says, “I worked for about four years at Jagran. It was a long and eventful journey. I was part of the group responsible for the launch of ‘Dainik Jagran’ in Jharkhand, Jammu, Punjab, etc. The biggest achievement was to take ‘Dainik Jagran’ to number one Hindi daily status in these places.”

Singh will be based in Jalandhar, Punjab. Besides spearheading the Dainik Bhaskar Group’s Punjab expansion plans, he will also oversee the newspaper’s circulation in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana.
