Preeti Vyas Giannetti on the Cannes jury this year

Giannetti has been invited to judge the press category and all its various sections

India scores another point in the international arena. Preeti Vyas Giannetti, chairwoman and chief creative officer, Vyas Giannetti Creative, has been invited to be a part of the jury that will judge the press category at the prestigious Cannes International Advertising Festival, scheduled to be held in July. Giannetti will judge the press category and all the sub-sections that come under it.

This is the second time that Giannetti has made it to the jury of an international awards show. Last year, she was a judge at the New York Festival.

What are India’s chances of winning at Cannes this year? Giannetti says, “Indian creatives are not understood by jury members abroad sometimes, but our Asian counterparts from Thailand and Bangkok are winning left, right and centre.”

Giannetti cites language barriers as a probable reason for this, as Indian nuances are very different from those abroad. “Another matter of concern is our quality of ideas. We have been winning awards abroad, but the bar of our creative standards needs to be raised tremendously,” she says.

However, Gianetti is pleased with the fact that of late, quite a few Indian creative folk are being invited to judge award shows abroad. “It’s a good sign that our creative talent is being recognised. The problem is not a dearth of talent, but whether we are using it or not. It’s a work-in-progress situation and I’m sure we’ll emerge winners out of it,” she says optimistically.

Giannetti was honoured recently at the Indira Awards for Marketing Excellence as Creative Professional of the Year. As per a listing by ‘Business Today’, she is one of the 25 most powerful women in Indian business, and the only lady from the ad fraternity to feature in that list.
