SaharaOne bags telecast rights for EurAsia cricket series

The cricket series will be telecast live from April 22 to May 5 on SaharaOne Television

SaharaOne has one more reason to shout from the rooftops. Sources close to the development confirm that the channel has bagged the television telecast rights for the BSNL EurAsia Cricket Series 2006, which is to be held in Abu Dhabi from April 22 to May 5. The financial details on the telecast rights are still to be ascertained.

The 13-day ODI series will have India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the UAE, Holland and Ireland battling it out for the title. SaharaOne Television will telecast the series from evening till late night. The series will progress as in a double round robin series, wherein two groups (of three teams each) will play with each other in the first round. In the next round, one team each from both the groups will be eliminated, but all the teams will get a chance to play with each other.

This is a significant win for the channel as it is currently riding high on the success of the India-England cricket series, which it bagged for Nimbus.

When agencyfaqs! contacted the executives at SaharaOne, they refused to comment on this significant win. But sources confirm that SaharaOne Television is planning to position the cricket matches as an interactive yet entertaining series for its viewers. The channel is believed to be in the process of roping in top commentators and presenters to ensure a lively format.

It is learnt that SaharaOne has also roped in six big sponsors for the series, but their names are still under wraps.
