Sanjay Raina quits Times Now

Sanjay Raina, general manager, marketing, Times Now, will join Astro Network in Malaysia

Times Now’s general manager, marketing, Sanjay Raina, has put in his papers and is all set to join Astro Network, Malaysia’s leading cross-media operator, as head of operations. Astro Network is reportedly the sole provider of direct-to-home services in Malaysia.

As head of operations, Raina will look after Astro Ceria, the soon to be launched kids’ channel in Malaysia and Indonesia.

“It was a golden opportunity to work for an international network. After my stint at Columbia Tristar and Discovery, the opportunity to work for a kids’ channel seemed really interesting,” says Raina.

About his new role, he says, “There will be two major challenges: firstly, to increase the viewership in the existing Malaysian market, and secondly, that in the Indonesian market, where things are still being set up… I will have to bring in the programming coordination, set up brands, infrastructure, etc.”

Raina’s work experience in marketing spans 14 years. Starting off as a sales executive for Philips India, he went on to become product manager there. He worked for Columbia Tristar next as marketing manager and then for Discovery Communications as associate director, marketing. He then joined ‘Hindustan Times’ as deputy general manager, where he worked till he joined Times Now.
