Harshad Jain joins WorldSpace India as chief marketing officer

At PepsiCo India, Jain was executive vice-president, Pepsi-Lipton joint venture. WorldSpace India hopes to establish a connection with a large base of music lovers across India by leveraging Jain’s extensive brand building experience

PepsiCo India’s Harshad Jain has joined WorldSpace India as its chief marketing officer. At PepsiCo, Jain was executive vice-president, Pepsi-Lipton joint venture. His mandate at WorldSpace India will be to enhance the consumer experience, build upon growing brand awareness and extend WorldSpace services to markets across India.

Leveraging Jain’s extensive brand building experience, WorldSpace will establish a connection with a large base of music lovers and further extend the reach of the satellite radio service across India.

Commenting on Jain’s appointment, Shishir Lall, managing director, WorldSpace India, says, “We are undertaking an extensive brand building campaign and looking to grow our business. As we share the joy of satellite radio with growing music lovers across the country, Harshad’s appointment becomes part of an intensive effort to continue building a passionate management team.”

At PepsiCo India, Jain laid the foundation for a strategic alliance between Pepsi and Unilever, which led to the merger of the Lipton Iced Tea business with Pepsi and for which he then developed a long-term vision and marketing strategy. During his 12-year stint at PepsiCo India, he was instrumental in building prominent brands for the company such as Lipton Iced Tea, Aquafina, Tropicana, Slice and Gatorade.

For the record, WorldSpace India is a wholly owned subsidiary of WorldSpace, Inc., and has a range of over 40 radio stations across genres from jazz and rock to classical and old Hindi film music. Its format for providing entertainment, news and a diverse variety of music is believed to be digitally superior and virtually ad-free.
