Neo Sports Broadcast launches Neo Sports Plus channel

While the flagship channel, Neo Sports, is more skewed towards cricket, Neo Sports Plus will concentrate on cricket and other games. The channel will be positioned in the ‘sports entertainment’ space

Nimbus Sports Broadcast has rolled out a new sports channel. Called Neo Sports Plus, the new channel will be positioned on the ‘sports entertainment’ platform. Nimbus Communications’ flagship channel is called Neo Sports.

While Neo Sports features cricket exclusively, Neo Sports Plus will telecast sports events from different genres of sports such as badminton, tennis, motor racing, soccer, shooting, sports news, golf, etc., from all over the world. It will be positioned as ‘Your Gateway to the Best Sporting Action.’

The feed for Neo Sports is only in English, but on the new channel, which will also air cricket matches, the feed will be in regional languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali.

Neo Sports Plus has acquired quite a few properties in football, motor sports and badminton. Speaking on the strategy behind launching the new channel, Shashi Kalathil, CEO, Neo Sports, says, “We want to broad-base viewership of sports by building a considerable fan base for these games. We are working out quite a few sports entertainment concepts based on consumer research to identify viewer likes and dislikes.”

The new channel will focus on sports entertainment by conceptualising and featuring shows in the arena of reality shows, sport game shows, sports news, quizzes and in-depth analyses. Neo Sports Plus will also be distributed by STAR India.

Neo Sports Broadcast will not go overboard with the marketing and promotion for the channel, but the matches and properties will be advertised as and when they come up.
