Prasoon Joshi to judge at the One Show, 2007

Although he has judged at many international award shows and festivals, this is Joshi’s first brush with the One Show as a judge. Last year, Ravi Deshpande was a judge at the One Show

Prasoon Joshi, executive chairman, McCann-Erickson India, has been invited to judge the prestigious USA based One Show, 2007. The rigorous judging process for the show will commence from March 25, 2007, and go on till April 2. The actual ceremony is slated for May 9 in New York City.

For the first time in five years, the judging for the One Show will be held outside of New York City – in Palm Beach, Florida. Last year, more than 50 countries entered work for the One Show; now it is to be seen if this year’s entries will match up.

Joshi joins the likes of John Butler (Butler Shine Stern), Adriana Curry (McCann, Sao Paulo), William Gelner (BBH, New York), Mark Waites (Mother, London) and Pinit Chantaprateep (JWT, Bangkok), who are all going to judge the awards.

Incidentally, Ravi Deshpande, chief creative officer, Contract India, was conferred with the same responsibility last year; he was amongst the jury members at the One Show in 2006.

Commenting on India’s chances at winning the much coveted pencils at the show, Joshi says, “Our exposure to global culture is increasing and one can witness a likewise increase in international juries’ exposure to Indian nuances.”

“I think this will help more and more Indian entries to be understood abroad,” he adds. But winning, he asserts, will ultimately be a function of the competition in the respective categories.

While this is Joshi’s first brush with judging at the One Show, he has judged various other international award shows, including D&AD, Cannes, New York Festivals, Clio and the Asia Pacific Ad Fest. “Personally speaking, judging at international award shows is a great learning experience because one gets to interact with people from all over the world and understand their points of view,” Joshi says.

For the record, the One Show recognises creative concepts across all media, including print, television, design and interactive advertising. This year’s winners will be featured in ‘The One Show Annual Volume 27’ and ‘The One Show Interactive Volume VIII’.
