Rajotavo Dasgupta roped in as branch head, Madison Creative, Kolkata

Rajot has experience of 17 years in the field of advertising

A while ago, Madison was believed to be in the process of starting a creative wing in Kolkata. Now it is learnt that Rajotavo Dasgupta (Rajot), branch head, BEI Confluence, East, will head the new branch of Madison Creative in Kolkata. Rajot has 17 years' experience in the field of advertising.

Prabha Prabhu, executive director, Madison Communications, says, "We were looking for a person who would be able to uphold the values and principles of Madison, and Rajot seemed to be the right fit. He has tremendous experience to his credit and will be able to run the show on his own."

Rajot's mandate at Madison, Kolkata, will be to bring in a fresh perspective for the East, as the market there is poised to take off. "Talks with clients have been initiated, but we need to get a team in place before anything concrete shapes up, which will take a while," adds Prabhu.

Rajot began his career in advertising in 1989, with short stints at Kolkata based agencies Mileage Advertising and Campaign Advertising. In 1993, he joined JWT, Kolkata and Nepal, and spent five years there.

McCann, Nepal, happened to Rajot in 1999 and he worked there as supervisor. In 2001, he moved to JWT (Asiatic), Dhaka, as account director and group account director. In 2003, he quit to join the Sabco Group in the Gulf (in Oman) as manager and servicing head.

In 2005, he joined BEI Confluence, Kolkata and East (including Bangladesh), as manager.

During his career span, he has worked on accounts such as Wills and Pepsi and helped take strategies in a multi-serve segment on a new initiative. At JWT, Kolkata and Nepal, he worked on STC and Nepal Lever. In Oman, he handled accounts such as National bank of Oman, MAFI Group – CityCentre (one of the largest retail chains in the Gulf) and UNICEF.

"There is already a media team which has been handling the work on Airtel from Kolkata for a while now. This new branch is a full-service creative agency, which will offer media services to some of its clients," explains Prabhu.

Discussing the Eastern market and the prospects for the advertising business in the region, Rajot says, "The other regions are saturated now. The East is on an uphill ride and segments like automotives, FMCG and real estate are booming there. Demand for secondary products consumed by the real estate sector, like cement and steel, are growing, and these need to be advertised."
