Restructuring galore at Marico

Marico Group has undergone organisational restructuring, including newer roles for its top management, and a rejig of its strategic business units

Marico Group has undergone a restructuring. From now, it will comprise three strategic business units (SBUs), namely the Consumer Products Business, Kaya Business and International Business. Also, it will have three functional units, Technology, Finance and IT, and HR and Strategy.

Changes have also been made on the people front. Saugata Gupta, head, marketing and sales, will now be the CEO of the Consumer Products SBU. Rakesh Pandey will continue to be CEO of the Kaya part of the business. The Sundari business, which has so far been managed as a separate SBU, has been brought under International Business, which will continue to be headed by its CEO, Vijay Subramaniam.

Milind Sarwate, hitherto CFO, will now be chief, HR and Strategy, and will handle the HR role along with a newly created function of strategy, which includes group strategic business planning, M&A, corporate structuring and corporate communications. Vinod Kamath, chief, supply chain and IT, will be the new chief, Finance and IT.

Commenting on the changes, Harsh Mariwala, chairman and managing director, says, "This reorganisation is aimed at giving each business a greater thrust and growth focus, and also at providing the right platform and functional support for growth."

The brands under Marico's umbrella include Parachute, Saffola, Sweekar, Hair & Care, Nihar, Shanti, Mediker, Revive, Kaya, Sundari, Aromatic, Fiancée and HairCode. The company is present in various categories, including coconut oil, hair oils, anti-lice treatment, premium refined edible oils and fabric care. Marico is also present in the skin care services segment through Kaya Skin Clinics (47 in India and the UAE), the Sundari range of spa skin care products (in the USA and other countries) and also through a recently acquired nascent soap franchise (in India and Bangladesh).
