Old TVS Suzuki hand Atul Gupta moves back to Suzuki

Gupta who once spent 11 years in TVS Motors, has now moved to Suzuki Motorcycles as vice-president, sales and marketing

Atul Gupta, an old hand with TVS Suzuki, where he spent around 11 years, has now moved to Suzuki Motorcycles, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan.

TVS Motors and Suzuki had a joint venture in India in the form of TVS Suzuki India. In 1984, the JV company launched its first brand in India, Ind-Suzuki, which was renamed TVS-Suzuki in 1987. But, in late 2001, the company was demerged and two new companies, TVS Motors and Suzuki Motorcycles India, were formed.

Gupta quit the company in 1997, long before the demerger. So, in a way, it's a home coming for Gupta. At Suzuki, Gupta will be responsible for marketing and sales functions and will aim at gaining a strong foothold for Suzuki Motorcycles in the Indian market.

Gupta says, "Considering the revolutionary boom in the two-wheeler industry, there is a lot of potential for innovative and aggressive players. I will first try to consolidate and then strengthen Suzuki Motors' position in India."

"India is a key market for Suzuki and the company is geared up with superior products, efficient sales and servicing support, and innovative marketing campaigns," adds Gupta.

Gupta's career took off with Escorts in 1984, where he spent two years handling the technical training portfolio. In 1986, he moved to TVS Suzuki, where, for the first seven years, he was national sales manager. In the last four years of his career at TVS Suzuki, he was also overseeing the marketing operations.

Gupta also worked with HFCL for seven years between 1997 and 2004. For the last two-and-half years, he has been associate vice-president, sales and marketing, at Yamaha Motors.
