Neo Sports spreads its wings across Asia

Neo Sports plans to roll out in Asia in markets such as Middle East, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka

Nimbus Communications-owned Neo Sports is all set to make a foray in markets outside India. Its pan Asia roll out will see it spreading its wings in markets such as the Middle East, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Nepal and also in Malaysia and Singapore.

In Nepal, it launched through Pacific Traders, while in the Middle East it has partnered with Pehla bouquet on the ADD platform. In Bangladesh it was launched through SAARC media while in Sri Lanka through the Sri Lanka Broadband Network.

It will commence broadcasting in Honk Kong and New Zealand in March this year. In Hong Kong, it will broadcast via cable through I-cable and in New Zealand via DTH on One broadcast.

Commenting on the development, Shashi Kalathil, chief executive officer, Neo Sports Broadcast, says that these markets are important due to the concentration of huge Indian ethnic community, thus implying a similar undying love for cricket.

The channel is expecting to churn out approximately $ 26 million in 2007-08, through revenues from the pan Asian operations, through subscription and advertising.

Neo Sports launched in October last year and is a cricket-only channel. Neo Sports Broadcast launched another sports channel named Neo Sports Plus, which is positioned as a sports entertainment channel.
