Sahara One to embark on weight-loss drive

Sahara One is all set to air ‘Biggest Loser Jeetega’, a reality show in which the participant who loses the maximum weight will be the winner

For many, losing weight is a difficult reality. Soon, it could be reality TV. Adding weight to this genre of programming is Sahara One’s reality series, ‘Biggest Loser Jeetega’, which will go on air this May with actor Suniel Shetty as the host.

‘The Biggest Loser’ is a popular show across the globe. The international format, launched in 2004, is owned by Reveille LLC, which has also produced shows such as ‘Ugly Betty’ and ‘The Office’. In India, it will be produced by Rahul Aggarwal of Star Entertainment for Sahara One.

The show will feature 16 obese contestants from various walks of life, bound by the common goal of losing weight over four months. The contestants will be under the constant vigil of fitness experts and nutritionists.

The show will feature renowned names from the health and fitness arena, such as Andrew Leipus, physiotherapist to the Indian cricket team, Yusuf Khan and Deepika Mehta.

At the end of the four months, the show promises to transform each of the 16 into healthy, confident and even wealthy individuals, with a cash prize for the winner. The participant who loses the most weight will be tagged winner, or the biggest loser of them all.

The format is straight-forward: The contestants will be grouped into two teams, with each team assigned a trainer. The team losing the least weight, gauged on a weekly basis, votes out one member of their team.

Seemanto Roy, head, entertainment business, Sahara One, believes the show will be inspiring, not just for the participants, but also for the country. “We wish to not only entertain the audience with this series, but also to bring about a change in their lives,” he says.
