NDTV to launch reality show in the education space

Embarking on the genre of reality television, NDTV, the English news channel, is launching a new programme targeted at young students. It is called Airtel Scholar Hunt Destination UK

NDTV is all set to launch a reality show called Airtel Scholar Hunt Destination UK, targeted at young students who complete their Class XII this April. The show will go on air from July 14 this year.

It will cater to the ambitious and scholastic students of India, offering scholarships to universities in the UK for subjects such as journalism, media and cultural studies, management, computing science, biomedical science and engineering.

It seems that NDTV had been toying with the idea of venturing into the reality space for more than a year, and came up with this one as it blends with the profile and personality of the channel. “It’s different from a glamour related talent hunt because, in this case, parents won’t have any reservations about their children participating,” says Raj Nayak, CEO, NDTV Media.

Some of the universities to which winners of the talent hunt will bag scholarships are Cardiff University, Leeds University, Middlesex University, Sheffield University and Warwick University for either a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree. The universities will assist NDTV with the specifics of the quiz, so that the selection criteria are in keeping with their requirements.

Sonia Singh, managing editor, NDTV 24X7, says, “We are targeting the next generation through this show by thrilling them and putting their minds to test for a promising future.”
