Gajendrra Siingh to remake Saregamapa for STAR Plus

Zee executives have decided to wait and watch, and have threatened legal action if they find the format similar

Gajendrra Siingh, (now with an extra ‘r’ and ‘i’), has got another of his popular shows onto STAR Plus. A few months ago, Gaj, as he his popularly known in the industry, ended his 10-year relationship with Zee Network.

The first programme that Gaj had got on to STAR Network was ‘Antakshari – The Great Challenge’, on its second channel, STAR One. He had even got the popular host of the original Antakshari show, Annu Kapoor, on board.

Following that, Zee also launched a show called ‘Antakshari’ with host Sunil Pal of ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ fame.

‘STAR Voice of India – Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa’, will be the second show that Gaj is bringing from the Zee stable. The original host of the show, Shantanu Mukherjee (Shaan), has been retained as the host. Even the judges from the previous avatar ‘Saregamapa’, Alka Yagnik, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Adesh Shrivastava, Jatin & Lalit Pandit, will be part of the new show.

Singh claims that while the show might have a strong resemblance to the original ‘Saregamapa’, it will have a different format. He, however, refused to reveal details.

agencyfaqs! also contacted executives at Zee Network to get their stand on this. “As of now, we will wait and watch, and if the show on STAR Plus has any resemblance to our show ‘Saregamapa’ in terms of format, we will take legal action against them,” says Ashish Kaul, vice-president, communication, Essel Group.

When asked why did not Zee take any legal action in case of ‘Antakshari’, which also has a strong resemblance with the original show, Kaul said that ‘Antakshari’ is a generic format used by people even at their homes, but ‘Saregamapa’ is a reality show format.

STAR’s version of ‘Saregamapa’ will be aired from June, on weekends.
