Fropper tries to make blogging EZ

People Interactive’s Fropper.com has launched EZ Blogs, which lets bloggers put up postings using forms on fixed templates

All eyes are on the social media space. Especially after Minglebox, a niche community site for college students, recently attracted large funding. Besides social networking, blogging is the other platform that has caught the fancy of Indian companies. Take People Interactive, whose Fropper.com – primarily a dating site – has launched EZ Blogs.

EZ Blogs makes blogging as easy as filling up a form. The site has launched templates for various subjects such as movie reviews, gadgets, news and travel. All the prospective blogger needs to do is fill in the form with details on what he wishes to write about.

The point is to make blogging appear less intimidating. Says Navin Mittal, business head at Fropper.com, “We want to de-emphasise the notion that you have to be a good writer to blog. We just want people to share their opinions with us through EZ Blogs.” Mittal adds that it was the members who voiced their interest in blogs after the site introduced photo sharing and group features.

Fropper.com has about 2.5 million members already, but there are no figures available on its bloggers yet. The company plans to attract other users (besides members) for the initiative, which is free as against its paid dating service.

Fropper’s business model is currently based on display advertising and subscription revenues. It plans to develop a revenue-sharing model, under which bloggers will be paid a portion of the revenues earned through their blogs. With Ibibo’s paid blogging not going as well as expected, Fropper’s model may make more sense.

Fropper.com will also launch a GPRS mobile portal for the site. An SMS interactive version through short code will be launched sooner, within a month. With this feature, users will be able to interact with other members using SMS.
