IBN Live revamps its website, diversifies content

The website adds more interactive features, podcasts, audio bulletins and will shortly launch a citizen journalism section

IBNLive.com, the website of the TV18 Group’s news channel CNN-IBN, has been revamped. The new website features a new layout, peppered with lots of video reports. The content has also been diversified to include more of cricket, Bollywood and lifestyle.

Speaking to agencyfaqs! about the revamp, Roshan Tamang, editor, IBNLive, said, “The new design enables us to display more content. We have fleshed out the content, especially our section on lifestyle.” He adds that though the site will continue to source content from the TV channel, exclusive content for the website is also being featured. The site also showcases content from other websites from the Web18 network, such as Cricketnext.com.

“If you look at it, there are no real web 2.0 websites in India,” adds Tamang. And the IBNLive site plans to become one through interactive features like polls, blogs and discussions. It has also added news podcasts and audio bulletins. The company will also make live its Citizen Journalist section live shortly, where readers can mail or SMS their scoops through pictures or video.

Asked whether the intention is to make IBNLive more of a general-interest portal, Tamang disagrees, “We are the top news site in India news will remain our main offerings. Even the other content we showcase will have a news peg to it”. The company also has plan to make its ads more “innovative”, and plans for the same will be announced in the coming weeks. “The ads will be contextual, geo-targeted and non-intrusive,” remarks Tamang.

The IBNLive website was named the ‘Best News Website’ by ‘PC World’ in May, beating NDTV.com, Expressindia.com and HindustanTimes.com among others. The company claims that it receives about 1.5 million hits a day on the site.
