Sound check: Big FM in a new avtaar

Big 92.7 FM has introduced a fresh programme schedule, RJs, rate card for advertisers and a 100 Chartbuster format which includes songs that have been ranked and rated the top 100, all to rebrand the station

Among various new initiatives, the ADAG promoted Big FM is introducing a fresh programme schedule, a bunch of popular names as RJs and a new 100 Chartbusters format to bring in a fresh perspective and provide a push to the station in a very competitive radio market.

With the 100 Chartbuster format, Big 92.7 FM’s Delhi station will broadcast the top 100 chartbusters that the people of Delhi enjoy, across day parts. The station will play the top 100 songs ranked as per a weekly chartbuster ranking model, where the top 100 songs are re-visited week on week and the refreshed play-list is put into place regularly. The music will cut across music genres and artists.

“This format has proven extremely successful across radio networks internationally and is here to entertain Delhi,” says Tarun Katial, COO, Big 92.7 FM.

To ensure the accuracy and credibility of data when putting together the music mix for the week, the station is undertaking a thorough and meticulous backend process, which involves TV play-outs of music videos, ringtone downloads on mobile phones (a strong indicator of music popularity), music album sales from Music World and other music stores, weekly call out research of the new song releases among a panel of consumers, and play-outs on radio stations.

Commenting on the new format, Katial says “This is the start of a second innings for the station. It will fulfil a strong need of listeners, which has been proven through research. The music will get more engrossing and entertaining, given that it is what the listener wants. We are proud to be the first radio to bring this unique format to India and will be very well received.”

“We aren’t here just to please our listeners, but also our advertisers. We also introduce a fresh rate card called Aqua for our advertisers, which will bring in a lot more transparency in our affairs,” says Punit Mathur, station head, Delhi, Big 92.7 FM.

The channel is also introducing some new RJs. Talking about the new programmes, Katial adds, “Change is the only constant. We have lined up some interesting programmes with some popular voices.”

The channel is also banking big on the 20-20 Cricket World Cup and has already planned some spoof shows featuring Shekhar Suman and Raju Srivastava.
