“While the metros are ideal to establish brand recognition and recall, few of the mini-metros are completely new and fresh to explore, which is a huge opportunity,” says Tarun Katiyal, COO, Big FM. He adds, “The programming mix of the stations has been put together based on extensive research and in-depth analysis, keeping in mind local preferences.”

In the first phase of its launches, Big FM set up stations in the metros of Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai. The second phase of launches has taken it to several tier II towns.

The programming includes utilities such as traffic and weather updates, time checks and health tips, and also “acknowledgement of local heroes”.

Abhishek Bachchan is the brand ambassador for the Hindi belt, Superstar Asin for the Telegu and Tamil markets, and Upendra for the Kannada market.

Big FM claims to reach 200 million listeners with the launch of the four new stations.
