Indiatimes launches personalised home page feature

With a makeover in progress, Indiatimes has released the beta version of My Indiatimes, a personalised home page service

Indiatimes continues its revamp with the launch of My Indiatimes, a personalised home page service. The company upgraded its mail service recently by adding mash-up and interactive features.

A personalised or custom home page is where a user can add or remove content of different categories like news, widgets, games and RSS feeds from various sources. Similarly, in My Indiatimes, users can create their customised page by adding the content of their choice.

Indiatimes launches personalised home page feature
My Indiatimes is the first offering of a personalised page from an India-based portal. However, global players like Yahoo and Google already offer My Yahoo and iGoogle as their personalised page services.

My Indiatimes service seems to similar to iGoogle but “it is going to differ in some features with iGoogle in some time, as Indiatimes is planning to launch new widgets and also empower users by allowing them to develop small applications that they can use for their My Indiatimes page over a period of time,” says an Indiatimes spokesperson. Even iGoogle allows users to create and share widgets under its Make Your Own Gadget program.

With the launch of My Indiatimes, it seems Indiatimes is getting hooked to the wave of social media and allowing users to aggregate and create the content they want.
