Rediffmail goes instant, embeds IM

On the lines of AOL, Gmail and Yahoo!, Rediff.com also makes its web mail service IM integrated

Google did it to Gmail in February 2006, Yahoo! followed suit with Yahoo! Mail a year later, and AOL integrated its instant messenger (IM) with AOL Mail in June 2007. Now, it’s the turn of Rediff.com.

India’s leading web based email service, Rediffmail, will now have RediffBol, Rediff's instant messenger tool, inbuilt into the email. RediffBol can be triggered from a new micro-window within the email. Speaking to agencyfaqs!, Manish Agarwal, vice-president, marketing, Rediff.com, says, “Everything on the Net is moving towards integration, so we decided to make Rediffmail more efficient for the benefit of Rediffmail users.”

RediffBol includes a feature that lets users set their status message or even be invisible while chatting. Rediffmail users will now be able to ping their friends and other contacts in their address book without having to separately sign into their Rediff messenger. “Now Rediffmail users don’t need to add contacts to their IM list. Whoever is in their email address book will be automatically added to RediffBol,” says Agarwal. Rediffmail boasts a total of 56.5 million registered email users, with over a million active RediffBol users, according to Agarwal.
