NDTV to launch an NCR channel

To be launched in the next fortnight, the channel will be the first English-language NCR channel and fifth overall

With four Hindi city channels already happening, Delhi is all set to get a fifth one, but in English this time. NDTV is on an expansion spree and will soon launch a Delhi/NCR channel, the group’s fifth property after NDTV 24X7, NDTV India, NDTV Profit and NDTV Good Times.

While sources refused to divulge the channel’s brand name, they say the concept – if successful in Delhi/NCR – could be extended to other cities under the same brand name.

A source close to the development revealed that the channel is expected to hit the airwaves in the next fortnight. Through the city channel, NDTV will bring in the high technology currently associated with international news channels. “The channel will move on from the traditional OB vans and introduce choppers for direct transmission from news spots,” reveals the source. NDT V has specifically hired and trained staff to handle the high-tech equipment and machines.

The channel will air city-based news, governance issues and other cultural programmes concerning the everyday life of the average citizen of Delhi. An official announcement is expected this week.

Currently, there are four similar properties focusing on the NCR, including Delhi Aaj Tak, Sahara NCR, Total TV and S1, all in Hindi.
