BBDO India sets shop with 7UP business

BBDO Worldwide has launched a new agency in the country, BBDO India, which starts off with the 7UP business in its kitty

BBDO Worldwide, the Omnicom group agency which existed in India in the form of a JV with RK Swamy/BBDO, has launched a separate agency in the country, christened BBDO India. The agency has kick-started operations with a business win already – BBDO India’s first account is soft drink 7UP.

Globally, BBDO is the agency for PespsiCo, but the for the last 18 years, JWT was been in-charge of this business in India.

agencyfaqs! had reported in August that beverages major PepsiCo was on the lookout for a creative agency for 7Up. Six agencies were known to have been invited for the pitch, including Grey Worldwide, Rediffusion DY&R, Draft FCB (Ulka), RK Swamy/BBDO and Lowe India.

Says Punita Lal, executive director, marketing, PepsiCo India, “BBDO India is now officially a part of the PepsiCo family. We have large ambitions on 7UP and were pleased with the strong creative work and strategic thinking demonstrated by BBDO India. BBDO is also a globally aligned agency for PepsiCo, which means we will be able to draw upon their international networks for learnings from across the world.”

Lal further informs that JWT India remains a key agency for all its other brands, including Pepsi, Mirinda, Tropicana and Slice.

Adds Chris Thomas, chairman and CEO, BBDO Asia, “We couldn't have hoped for a more iconic brand to launch BBDO India with.” BBDO India will draw on the resources of RK Swamy/BBDO, Hansa and BBDO Asia.

The new agency will assume charge from November 1, 2007.
