Yahoo, Gmail, Orkut grab honours at Web18 Awards

The special User’s Choice Award was won by Yahoo India

The Genius of the Web Awards organised by Web 18 has announced its winners. Genius of the Web Awards is a series of awards in multiple categories that recognise outstanding industry achievements by companies that have done commendable work in the online space. The award is in its first year. It promotes diligence and innovation used by companies to implement a successful business plan and excel in the marketplace.

Yahoo, Gmail, Orkut grab honours at Web18 Awards

The awards had close to 86 nominations across 19 categories. The winners were judged on parameters such as customer care, number of hits per month, registered users, user friendliness, website dynamics, website content, depth and breadth of the information provided and technology adoption.

The special User’s Choice Award was won by Yahoo India through a unanimous poll. GMail emerged as the Best Email Service Provider (Consumer) and Orkut, the Best Social Networking Site.

Other winners include Best Airlines – Jet Airways; Best Banking – ICICI Bank; Best Brokers – ICICI Direct; Best Business ISP – Bharti Airtel; Best Consumer ISP Broadband – Bharti Airtel; Best Education – ‘Education Times’; Best Email Service Provider Business – Indiatimes; Best E-Commerce Site (Online Gaming) – Yahoo India; Best E-Commerce Site (Matrimonials) – Shaadi.com.

Taj Hotels won the award for Best Hotels Site and LIC India became the Best Insurance Site. The Best Government and PSU Site award was given to IRCTC India. Reliance Mutual won the Best Mutual Funds Site and eBay came out as the Best Trade Site in the country.

The award for Best Utility Site went to Rel.co.in.
