Sunil Dutt is country head, Samsung Mobile

Dutt has 23 years of experience in the field of business development and marketing

Sunil Dutt has joined Samsung as India head for its mobile business. Dutt will be responsible for the sales and marketing functions for both the GSM and CDMA mobile business. He moves in from Nokia, where he was sales director.

HB Lee, president and chief executive officer, Samsung, Southwest Asia headquarters, says, “We expect to fully leverage the huge potential of the telecom market in India with Dutt’s expertise and rich knowledge of the Indian market.”

Dutt has experience of 23 years in the field of business development and marketing. A management postgraduate, he started his career with Philips in 1984 as a management trainee. After spending eight years with the company, he left as product marketing manager for special products. In 1993, Dutt joined Wipro’s new lighting business as branch manager for the North (Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh) and set up the business from scratch.

Whirlpool happened in 1996 and Dutt joined as branch head in Chandigarh. In two years, he was designated general manager for the Eastern region. In mid-1999, he was appointed general manager for the West. He moved to the coffee chain, Barista, in January 2001 as head of operations; at the time, it had just three outlets. He was there for a year and, under his guidance, the store count went up to 77. In January 2002, Dutt moved to Nokia as national sales head; he was responsible for channel development and marketing there.

Samsung Electronics is a leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies with parent company sales of US$63.4 billion and net income of US$8.5 billion in 2006. The company consists of five main business units: digital media business, LCD business, semiconductor business, telecommunication network business and digital appliance business. Samsung Electronics is a producer of digital TVs, memory chips, mobile phones and TFT-LCDs.
