Sify reveals new logo, to expand e-commerce, online learning services

Sify has launched a new corporate identity and a tagline which says, ‘Keeping You Ahead’

Sify Technologies Ltd has revealed its new corporate identity in the form of a new logo and the tagline, ‘Keeping You Ahead’. Raju Vegesna, chairman, managing director and chief executive officer of the company, describes the new identity as “young, fun-loving, dynamic and vibrant”. He explains that the logo is aimed at “making the Sify brand more contemporary and giving it a cool look”.

The new Sify logo is in a shade of green, which the company claims represents an “eco-friendly” approach, on a background of grey, which is “business-like”. The earlier logo, which Sify has used since 1999, was blue and red. In the new logo, the dot over the ‘i’ in Sify has been moved a bit forward to illustrate its new tagline of always moving ahead. The logo has been designed by Lopez Design, a Delhi based design agency.

Sify is also planning to integrate its consumer businesses, which include broadband, Internet portals, cyber cafes and online gaming. Vegesna says, “We are no longer looking at Internet access and content separately. The content will ride on the access points.”

As part of the integration strategy, Sify will give consumers access to e-commerce facilities such as utility bill payments, rail and airline ticket bookings and holiday packages at Sify i-ways, the company’s cyber cafe chain, which has more than 3,000 outlets.

Sify spokesperson David Appasamy tells agencyfaqs!, “The two major constraints to e-commerce in India are the lack of Internet access and the low penetration of credit cards. Through Sify, consumers will be able to avail these e-commerce facilities and pay in cash.”

Apart from e-commerce, Sify also plans to provide consumers with online learning facilities. “This could include partnerships with online tutors such as Math Guru to provide online learning services,” says Vegesna.

Appasamy adds that the new identity includes a revamp of its consumer Internet site, www.sify.com, which will happen “over the next six months”. The consumer business contributes about 35 per cent to Sify’s revenues, reported at about Rs 150 crore in the second quarter.

Regarding the promotion of the new identity, Appasamy says, “There will be no big bang advertising campaign, we will look at it as the business moves along.”
