Emmanuel Upputuru on AdFest 2008 jury

Upputuru had his first experience of judging at the London International Awards (LIA) last year. He judged the entries in the television category at the time

Emmanuel Upputuru, national creative director, Publicis India, has been invited to judge at the Asia Pacific Advertising Festival (AdFest) 2008, which is to be held in Pattaya, Thailand, from March 26 to March 29, 2008. He will be on the jury for the Radio Lotus 2008, which will judge the radio advertising entries from Asia.

Upputuru exclaims, “Radio is an exciting medium! This is my second stint as a judge and I am really looking forward to passing judgement on the entries from around Asia.”

Upputuru, who has been a part of the advertising fraternity for 13 years, moved to Publicis from O&M in October 2007. The other agencies that he has worked with during his career span include Saatchi & Saatchi, Contract, Leo Burnett and McCann-Erickson. He has worked on accounts such as Shell, Dabur, Nokia, Mother Dairy, Gillette, Limca, Sprite, Motorola, Maruti and American Express.

Last year, Upputuru was invited to judge the television entries at the London International Awards (LIA). That was his first experience as a judge.

Amongst the awards that he himself has won are two Cannes Lions, five Abbys and one bronze at the AdFest in Bangkok. His work has also received nominations at Cannes, the One Show, the Clios and the D&AD.

David Guerrero, chairman and chief creative officer, BBDO Guerrero Ortega, has been appointed president of the Radio Lotus 2008. In its 11th year, the Adfest has ‘ReInvent’ as its theme for 2008, and it will acknowledge the necessity for the advertising industry to continuously find ways to reach its increasingly hard to reach consumers.

Radio Lotus, 360 Lotus and Innova Lotus were the three award categories that the Adfest introduced last year. Another two new categories been added this year: the New Director Lotus and the Design Lotus. This brings the total award categories to 12. The other categories in which the Lotus awards are given are television, press and poster, outdoor, direct marketing, online, film craft and print craft. Last year, the AdFest received more than 5,000 entries and had 1,600 participants.
