Pratik Basu quits BAG Films

Basu’s resignation comes just five months after he joined the organisation

Pratik Basu, executive director, BAG Films and Media, has put in his papers. Basu says, “I had joined the organisation with a particular vision in mind. Unfortunately, there was no match between the vision I had conceived and that of the organisation. I have my own style of functioning and managing things, and somehow, I found the operational structure very restricting.”

Basu’s resignation comes five months after he joined BAG Films. He holds a BA (Hons) degree in economics from Presidency College and he is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta. He has more than three decades of experience in marketing, advertising and media.

Basu started his career in sales with a Tata Company and moved to consumer product marketing with The Gramophone Company of India. Then he spent 10 years in advertising with agencies such as JWT (then HTA) and Lintas. Subsequently, he joined the media entertainment business as chief executive officer of Buena Vista Television India. He worked there for 10 years.

When asked about his future plans, Basu says, “I don’t think I will be joining any organisation at the moment. I would rather work as an independent media consultant.”

Basu is the author of the book, Clueless & Co., which was published by Rupa in December 2007. The book switches between a first person account of a man’s life in a pipe company and the misadventures of another man who is out to join as a partner in a dubious marketing research organisation. Basu continues to be on the board of the INX Group’s human resource companies, including INX Services Pvt. Ltd and INX Executive Search Pvt. Ltd.
