Rediff gets a business head for LG

Arun Mahajan has joined the agency as the national business head on LG

After winning the LG account, Rediff has been on a human resource prowl. Following the recent appointment of two executive creative directors, Mrinal Dasgupta and Varun Arora, the agency now has Arun Mahajan on board as national business head on the LG account. Mahajan moves in from Bates David Enterprise, where he was vice-president, client servicing, on the Nokia business.

With an advertising career of almost 19 years behind him now, Mahajan started as a trainee with Everest Advertising in 1989. He worked on accounts such as Pan Parag and Maltova while there. He was a senior executive when, in 1992, he and nine other people moved out to set up the Delhi branch of Triton. He joined Triton as account group manager, and stayed there for a little more than a year.

Following that, Mahajan joined Mudra as account supervisor and worked primarily on the Nestle portfolio for six years. Alongside, he began working on Samsung’s air conditioner business, and in a matter of time, switched responsibilities from Nestle to Samsung. He was put in charge of all of the Samsung business, which consisted of IT, colour TVs and home appliances at the time. He moved out towards the end of 2003 as group business director, when Mudra, Grey and Triton were asked to give up their shares of the Samsung business, all of it having moved to Cheil Communications.

Mahajan, too, moved base to Cheil, as associate vice-president in charge of the Samsung basket. He moved out of the agency in late 2006 as vice-president. In mid-2007, he joined Bates.

Sandeep Madan, executive vice-president and branch head, Rediff Delhi, says, “Looking at his contribution on the Samsung business, Mahajan’s category experience will be leveraged well for LG. With Mahajan, Dasgupta and Arora, the leadership team on LG is complete.”
