Ullas Chopra heads for Capital Advertising

During his 16 years in the business of advertising, Chopra has done three stints with Mudra and two with Lowe

Ullas Chopra, executive creative director, Mudra Delhi, has joined Capital Advertising Delhi in the same capacity. Chopra will work along with Parshu Narayanan, director, creative services, Capital. He will be in charge of the creative work done in Delhi and Mumbai.

On moving out of Mudra, Chopra says, “I have been with Mudra for 12 years, across three stints, and it is an extremely emotional moment to leave from here. I am moving on because I believe that creative people need to refresh and challenge themselves. I also felt I was ready to take on the task of building something up.”

Chopra spent three years as a medical representative before he went into advertising in 1990. His first assignment was at Mudra Ahmedabad – he joined as a trainee; over the four years that he spent there, he moved up to the level of senior copywriter. In 1994, he moved to Rediff Delhi for a short stint. That same year, he moved to Lowe Delhi, where he stayed for four years, leaving the agency as creative director.

In 1998, Chopra joined Mudra Bangalore – he joined there as creative director and was later promoted to creative director, South. In 2000, he left advertising to join Netacross, an Internet venture in Delhi; he was chief creative officer there. In a year, he returned to advertising, starting his second stint at Lowe Delhi, this time as creative director. In late 2002, he joined Mudra Delhi for his third stint with the Mudra Group, as creative director; later, he took on the responsibility of creative head of the Delhi branch. He was designated executive creative director at the agency last year.

Chopra has won national awards for his work for Maruti, San Frisco, Dabur, Jubilent Organics and Netlon, among others. He has also won some international awards, including golds at the AsiaPac and Young Guns.
